Bachelor Thesis

For my bachelor thesis I combined the HTC Vive VR headset with the Perception Neuron motion capture system. The latter is a device for real time motion capturing that works without the usage of external cameras.

The purpose of the thesis was to investigate the feasibility of the motion capture system for the usage as input device in a VR application.

Unfortunately the captured motion data turned out to be not precise enough to be used together with the controllers provided by the VR headset. Therefore I developed a prototype that uses a custom control based on the motion capture data alone. To interact with it, the player can use a small set of gestures, like holding a flat hand to open a menu or making a fist gesture to grab an item.

I also created a test environment which had some gameplay elements utilizing the control prototype. The player can move around the map, find equipment and weapons and use them to fight enemies and get to the end of the level.
